Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
In a recent "Entertainment Weekly" magazine, Stephen King revealed his TOP 20 songs on ITunes that he plays while he is working, writing I guess. So I figured hey, I can do that, what a good idea. So here are my current TOP 20 songs on ITunes that I am enjoying, again, not TOP 20 of all time, because who really can chisel those in stone? Our favorites always change, and if you are reading this, I would love to hear your TOP 20 also. Maybe I'll discover one of your songs, and maybe you'll decide to try one of mine, who knows. I doubt Lali will try ANY of mine since she hates my music haha, love you brat. Thats how the best songs sometimes are discovered. Enjoy.

20. "I'll Be Around" by The Spinners - An amazing piece of Motown Soul. Such an honest song too with a simple message: Hey, if ya need me, ill be there, ill be around.

19. "It's the Night Time" by Josh Rouse - This is from his album titled Nashville and for anyone whos been there, this IS the sound of Nashville's Alt-Country movement that I am so in love with. I'm not a country fan, but an Acoustic Alternative song with some twang in the background seems to do it for me.

18. "Jack & Diane" by John Mellencamp - I actually have an Uncle Jack and Aunt Diane, unfortunately they are brother and sister so it doesnt really work haha. But a great summer song to drive to. Cmon lets go suck on a chilly dog outside the tasty freeze. I love that this song has like 4 different choruses too.

17. "If You Don't Know Me By Now" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - Ahhhhh Philly Soul. How can you go wrong with a band with this name? I grew up on this song, its one of my father's favorites, and has now grown into one of mine. One of the best love songs.

16. "I'm Your Captain" by Grand Funk Railroad - Always brings me back to a pot filled car, filled with my friends, riding around the back streets in my old neighboorhood on a summer night and being 20 years old. Ahhh youth lol.

15. "Father Figure" by George Michael - My fav song by him. Powerful. Not sure how else to describe it.

14. "1234" by Feist - Cute playful little song. The part that gets me is when she holds the "You know who you areeeeeeeeeeee" at the end. LOVE IT.

13. "Pictures of You" by The Cure - I hated HP for putting this song in their commercial at first, but it grew on me. I have always been a huge fan of The Cure. Disintegration is probly in my TOP 10 albums of all time. And you gotta love the episode of South Park with Robert Smith and Kyle yelling "Disintegration is the best album ever!"

12. "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals - Kinda cool hearing everything a girl thinks when she meets a boy she likes. This one always brings me back to Goodfellas too.

11. "Love Takes the Best of You" by Catie Curtis - Before Madonna and Angelina decided to adopt their kids and be cool, Catie wrote this song. And I am not sure if Madonna and Angelina mean what they say, but I'd bet my life Catie means every word she says in this song about adopting with her partner.

10. "What About Everything?" by Carbon Leaf - This one asks some of the best questions in life. What about aliens? What about the ring? (Lali's fav question) What about the moon and stars?

9. "Is There A Ghost?" by Band of Horses - Who says you have to write a ton of lyrics? Say what you have to say.

8. "Tennessee" by Arrested Development - Groovin to this cassette was so much fun. Before everyone went and got all Gangsta, there was just the rythym, the beat, the words, the groove. AD had it. A game of Horseshooooooes.

7. "That's How I Knew This Story Would Break My Heart" by Aimee Mann - Heard this one in the movie Jersey Girl and fell in love with it. Learning it on piano now.

6. "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" by Bruce Springsteen - You really didnt think I'd have a Top 20 with no Boss right? Cmon im from Jersey. The Jersey Shore was never described more perfectly. And with the recent passing of Danny Federici I have alot more respect for the accordian parts in this song that he played so beautifully.

5. "Old Time Sake" by Kathleen Edwards - Probably my favorite female singer at the moment. And this Alt-Country gem is perfect for the drive home at 1am if you just want something chill.

4. "Take a Bow" by Madonna - I miss this Madonna and hate the new one.

3. "Hey Now" by Crowded House - Dying to do this one at Karaoke somewhere. "Now I'm walkin again to the beat of a drum, and I'm countin the steps to the door of your heart". Bravo.

2. "Touch My Body" by Mariah - Love the song, love the video. Lali loves me trying to sing it. Great "background" song too ahem :)

1. "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart - The ultimate summer love song without really being a love song in my opinion. I love the fact that he says "in my eyes your everything" then ends the song with "i wish i never seen your face". But isnt that how things work out sometimes? And the guitar picking at the end with Rod coming out and yellin MAGGGGIE. Rules. I don't care of Rod is 102 he can still rock.

I liked a few of your choices. You didn't put any of the songs I DLed on Itunes on your list. lol What about "Frozen?" boooooo!

I hate Maggie May =X Eww who's face do you wish you had never seen?

You didn't tell me you were learning the Aimee Mann song on piano. you don't ever tell me anythingggggggg.

I like this person that wrote this LJ entry. Not the one that sits and burps all night on the couch LOL

And this Alt-Country gem is perfect for the drive home at 1am if you just want something chill.

I know you ain't coming home at 1am unless it's with me after a Phillies game or something hahaha
